WWE NXT Results and Review

August 24, 2016

We Write Wrestling – @WeWriteWrestlin

This week’s episode is light on matches but not on quality. Filmed at Takeover: Brooklyn II the crowd energy, commentary and mat action add up to a great new episode. Also in this ep: the last Bayley promo…I’m not crying you are shut up. Let’s get in the ring!

Tye Dillinger vs. Wesley Blake

Tye Dillinger is as advertised: The Perfect 10. Dillinger has, through the force of his charisma and ring work, become one of the most beloved wrestlers in NXT. The arrogant-but-lovable archetype is well represented all over WWE (Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho etc.) but there is an otherness to Dillinger that in a perfect world would lead to some sort of title reign. The Perfect 10 is perfectly able to carry the weight of a championship.

While Wesley Blake may be adrift following the implosion of his Blisstastic team, he is really impressive in this match. His style compliments Dillinger and the energy they sustain and capitalize on in Brooklyn is noteworthy. Recommended match!

Winner: Tye Dillinger (via pinfall following a Tye Breaker)

Authors of Pain w/ Paul Ellering vs. TM61

TM61 manage to run the monstrous Authors of Pain out of the ring, something nobody has been able to do. They also pick up a solid 2-count, a rare feat. Showing some dynamics in the power of both teams ensures longevity and prevents one-note performances. All that aside, Rezer and Akam take it to Nick Miller and Shane Thorne something fierce. This is a brutal, well paced match.

Winners: Authors of Pain (via pinfall following a Leg Sweep/Clothesline)

Notes

This episode is packed with post-match promos from Bobby Roode, Austin Aires, The Revival and (for the final time?) Bayley who puts Ember Moon over quite nicely. Bayley’s farewell package is exceptional and is recommended.
